Polyfield
Stylized WW2 shooter with bots and community battlefields
Polyfield is a refreshing twist on the World War II shooter formula, trading ultra-realistic visuals for a clean, low-poly art style that keeps the action smooth and readable. Underneath its minimalist look, though, lies a surprisingly tense and tactical first-person experience.
The core of Polyfield is classic team-based warfare: you spawn, capture objectives, and push through enemy lines using period-inspired weapons. Gunplay feels snappy and impactful, with clear audio cues and recoil that gives each rifle and submachine gun a distinct personality. Matches are fast-paced but rarely chaotic, thanks to the clean visuals and uncluttered UI.
One of Polyfield’s strongest features is flexibility. You can jump into online matches with other players or practice offline against bots, which is perfect for learning the maps or just enjoying a quick solo session. Bot behavior is decent for an indie shooter: they flank, take cover, and generally keep you on your toes, even if they occasionally get stuck or act overly predictable.
The map system is where Polyfield really stands out. A built-in editor lets you build your own battlefields, from simple skirmish zones to more complex arenas with chokepoints and flanking routes. If you’d rather play than create, you can browse and use community-made maps, greatly extending replay value and variety.
Performance is generally solid, with the stylized graphics helping maintain stable frame rates even in busy firefights. That said, occasional bugs and balance issues can crop up, especially on user-created maps.
If you enjoy WW2 shooters but want something lighter, more creative, and community-driven, Polyfield is a compelling and highly replayable option.
