FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: The War of the Lions is a triumphant return of one of the most beloved strategy RPGs ever made, expertly adapted to a touch interface while preserving its rich, political tale of Ivalice.

You step into the war-torn kingdom as Ramza, navigating a web of betrayal, class struggle and religious intrigue. The narrative is dense and mature, closer to a historical epic than a typical fantasy adventure, and still holds up brilliantly thanks to the enhanced script and gorgeous animated cutscenes introduced in the War of the Lions edition.

Gameplay is where this title truly shines. Battles unfold on isometric, grid-based maps where elevation, positioning and timing matter as much as raw stats. The flexible Job system lets you mix abilities from dozens of classes—like Knights, Black Mages, Ninjas and Arithmeticians—creating deep, highly personalized party builds. Planning a synergistic squad and watching your strategy unfold is endlessly satisfying.

The touch controls feel natural: tap units and menus, pinch to zoom, and drag to rotate the battlefield smoothly. It’s a big improvement over the original’s camera management and makes surveying complex maps faster and more precise. Improved loading times and the option to skip certain cutscenes help keep the pacing brisk, especially during long play sessions.

Visually, the game retains its charming, sprite-based art and atmospheric environments, while the soundtrack delivers one of the finest orchestral scores in the genre. On the downside, occasional compatibility hitches and a somewhat cluttered interface on smaller screens can hamper the experience.

Despite these minor issues, FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: WotL remains a must-play tactical RPG, offering extraordinary depth, a gripping story and dozens of hours of strategic combat.
