LA Rex
Unleash a rampaging T Rex across a destructible LA
LA Rex is unapologetically straightforward: you are a hungry Tyrannosaurus loose in Los Angeles, and everything in your path is either food or debris. This side-scrolling action game drops you into compact levels where the only real objective is to eat every human, crush every car, and leave a trail of chaos before reaching the exit.
Gameplay is built around simple controls and instant gratification. A virtual joystick or directional buttons move your dinosaur forward and back, while separate buttons let you jump and bite. It takes seconds to understand and feels satisfyingly weighty once you get used to the T-Rex’s momentum. The thrill comes from chaining actions together – leaping onto rooftops, snatching fleeing civilians mid-air, then landing hard enough to flatten a line of parked vehicles.
Visually, LA Rex leans into its brutal premise with cartoonish but graphic violence: limbs fly, blood splatters, and buildings crumble in chunky 2D art. The environments are varied enough to keep the short levels from feeling identical, with different parts of LA offering new props to stomp and smash. Sound effects amplify the carnage, with roars, screams, and crunching metal selling the destruction.
Where LA Rex falters is depth. Levels are quick and quite linear, and once you’ve grasped the basic rhythm, the experience becomes more about repetition than strategy. There are no real upgrades, progression systems, or unlocks to encourage long-term play, so it works best in short bursts rather than marathon sessions.
If you’re looking for a nuanced dinosaur simulator, this isn’t it. But if you want a fast, brutally simple destruction game that lets you live out your inner movie-monster fantasies, LA Rex delivers exactly that with gleeful abandon.
