Amaze
Sleek open source file management with power user features
Amaze lives up to its name by delivering a fast, clean and highly capable file manager wrapped in an attractive Material Design interface. From the first launch, its layout feels intuitive: a simple two-pane style home screen, a tidy navigation drawer, and core actions such as copy, move, delete, compress and extract always within easy reach.
One of Amaze’s standout strengths is productivity. It supports multiple tabs, so you can keep several folders open and hop between them instead of constantly backtracking. Drag-and-drop between tabs works smoothly, making bulk organization far less tedious. The inclusion of history, bookmarks and a powerful search ensures that frequently used folders and elusive files are only a tap away.
Power users get a generous toolkit. There’s a root explorer for those with elevated access, support for SMB and SFTP for browsing network shares, and an integrated FTP/FTPS server to turn your device into a quick file host on the local network. Sensitive data can be protected with AES encryption and decryption, a rare bonus in lightweight file managers.
Amaze also doubles as a handy viewer: it includes readers for archives (ZIP/RAR), text, databases and more, reducing the need to jump between multiple utilities. Customization fans will appreciate the range of themes and icon sets, which help the interface feel personal rather than generic. All of this comes ad-free, which makes everyday use noticeably more pleasant.
There are a few caveats. Cloud service integration requires an additional plugin, which may disappoint those expecting everything out of the box. The interface, while clean, feels slightly dated compared to the latest design trends, and some advanced features (like root tools and network protocols) can be intimidating for beginners.
Still, for users who want a light, open source, no-nonsense file manager with genuine depth, Amaze is a compelling choice.
