ZModeler for Android
Powerful 3D model editor for game modders and creators
ZModeler for Android is an ambitious 3D editing tool clearly aimed at serious modders, especially those working with classic game formats like DFF and IFP. Evolving from SA File Editor, it now offers a more complex interface that reflects its expanded toolset rather than unnecessary clutter.
The core strength of ZModeler lies in its format support. You can import DFF, OBJ and 3DS models, then export your work back to DFF or OBJ, which makes it especially useful for tweaking game assets or moving models between tools. Once a model is loaded, you can rename geometry and frame nodes, a small but essential feature for keeping large scenes organized.
Editing tools are already surprisingly solid for a project still in development. You can adjust materials—color, texture, reflection and lighting for DFF files—giving you fine control over how models will look in-game. Basic transform options let you translate and rotate geometries, while the fragment separation tool is great for splitting a single mesh into multiple pieces, for example to create destructible objects or modular parts.
Animation support is another highlight. By loading a compatible skin and IFP file, you can preview animations directly, which is invaluable for character modding and checking rig behavior before exporting.
However, the app is still a work in progress. The interface can feel dense and intimidating if you are not already familiar with 3D workflows, and you should expect occasional instability and missing quality-of-life features. Documentation and in-app guidance are limited, so beginners may struggle.
Nonetheless, for experienced modders willing to tolerate some rough edges, ZModeler for Android already offers a powerful, specialized toolkit that is rare on handheld devices and promising enough to keep an eye on as it matures.
