Collect wild Mortys in a hilarious multiverse battler

Rick and Morty: Pocket Mortys is a clever parody and a surprisingly solid monster-collecting RPG wrapped into one chaotic sci-fi package. You play as Rick Sanchez, stripped of his portal gun and forced to battle alternate Ricks by building a team of… Mortys. Hundreds of them.

The core loop is instantly familiar: roam strange dimensions, battle rival trainers, capture new Mortys, and level them up into stronger, often weirder versions. With 300+ unique Mortys – from Cronenberg Morty to Pickle Morty and Car Morty – assembling a diverse deck quickly becomes the game’s main addiction. The rock-paper-scissors style combat (different Morty “types” with strengths and weaknesses) keeps battles simple yet strategic enough to reward team composition and smart move choices.

Campaign mode offers a light but entertaining story that leans heavily into the show’s irreverent humor. Dialogues are sharp, loaded with meta jokes, and the “sustainably sourced Morty sounds” add to the absurdity. The pixel-art visuals and exaggerated animations suit the tone perfectly and run smoothly, even when battles get crowded.

Beyond the story, there’s plenty to keep you busy: hunting Shiny and Pulsing Mortys for Jerry, checking Summer’s traveling merchant van for rare items, joining co-op raids against powerful bosses, and battling or trading Mortys with other players. This gives the game a long tail, especially for collectors.

On the downside, progression can feel grindy once you’re chasing high-level Mortys or rare variants, and the free-to-play economy leans on timers and premium currency. It’s never outright pay-to-win in casual play, but impatient players will notice the nudges.

Still, if you enjoy Pokémon-style team building and have any affection for Rick and Morty’s dark humor, Pocket Mortys is an easy recommendation and one of the more entertaining franchise spin-offs around.
